Joshua Fit For Battle is a band from Newark, Delaware home to many other bands including but not limited to
Boy Sets Fire, Network 34 and The Bessemer Process. JFFB falls under the Hardcore Genre but prefers to not be
labled by any "type" of music. JFFB is now the home to ex-members of Bessemer Process, Union, Coffin, Smile,
Dis Little Lite of Mine, As Thoughts Die.. Year of the Comet, Rx139 and many others and is the result of a
search for a new type of sound to come out of Newark. |

Joshua Fit For Battle was formed in March of 1998 by three members of a now defunct band called "As Thoughts Die.."
(Joe, Dan and Geoff).Upset with the slow pace of that band, Dan formed a new band with a friend from high school.
Kevin Hardy. (Kevin and Dan had been in many bands from the days of Smile and YofTC and Rx139.) Bringing in Joe and
Geoff into the mix as well as Larry, JFFB was almost set. After the first practice it was decided the band's sound would be
much fuller with another guitarist. At the next practice Justin Gilday (or as he would rather be called lil' J)
was brought into the mix. JFFB played togther for a few weeks before a friend in Reading (Alexander T) gave them thier first show. Being a spur of the moment thing Dan was unable to make it. (GRRRR) and JFFB considered this a good time to at least get out the jitters of playing the new songs in front of a live audience and played that night as a 5-some and w/o a bass player. About a month later JFFB was given anther chance. This time the show took place in Wilmington Delaware put on by Media Productions out of Wilmington. About 6 months later JFFB went through another dramatic change. Justin quit the band after losing interest in playing music. The band then brought in John Fessano on guitar, adding a more softer melodic side to the band. John played with the band for about a year or so untill in May of '99 when the band decided to take a break up. But due to boredom (or maybe lonelyness?) Dan convinced the guys to reform. John Fessano decided to not take part in the band from then. So in order to fill the empty slot left by him, JFFB brought in Josh Jakubowski from Neil Perry. Josh also brought a much harder and rougher sound to the band... 2 years since the formation of JFFB, the band has released two split 7'', is featured on a comp. and has a split 12'' and a 7'' available now. In the summer following the release of their 7'' from prizefight records, JFFB thought about breakign up again. That summer saw the departure of Joe and Geoff from the band and for a short while JFFB played as a 4 piece. But the lineup was to change again... Taking the month of September off, JFFB regrouped and brought in a friend from Newark to play guitar. Bryan Louie Kai joined the band, bringing with him a more melodic driving feel to the band which had begun turning towards a harder sound. They played their first show since the summer in October at Girls Inc In Newark.... And the show was amazing.. Lot's of people came out. The show was initally billed as the last JFFB show, but with the addition of Bryan, JFFB changed their minds.. Now rocking with only 1 singer and only 3 original members, JFFB went on. In 2001 JFFB finally embarked on their first extended tour, the winter tour of 2000 was a bust with the bulk of the show being cancled, but the '01 winter tour was amazing.. Hitting states like Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas all the way, JFFB brought the rock down south, leaving Virginia in the middle of a snow storm the blue monster van and making to florida to hang out in shorts and t-shirts. Later that spring saw the release of the much awaited split LP with long time friends Neil Perry, of whom josh plays guitar on. The Lp had been in the works for years and was finally made a reality. things were quiet over the next few months, as JFFB wrote songs and played a limited number of shows as josh and kevins side projects were touring the US. following the summer JFFB all went back to school and were bogged down with too much reading and projects to make any real ventures out as a band. So instead they started writing songs and looking for a label to put out a full length. In November JFFB hooked up with Alone Records to release their first full length album, slated to be released in early January 2002. JFFB also plans another east coast tour in March to help promote the tour. |
